The True Foundation For Manifesting Money
The true foundation for financial success, career success, or business success isn’t rooted in how nice or positive you are. It’s rooted in your belief system. If you believe you’re worthy of and deserve financial success, you’ll achieve it. If you believe you’re unstoppable, that will be true too. But if your belief system says money is the root of all evil, chances are wealth will keep eluding you.
If you’ve heard me talk or read past blogs, you’ve heard me mention the reticular activation system, or RAS. Tony Robbins talks about this too. Here’s how it works: we’re hit with so much stimuli every day that our brain can only focus on what truly matters to us, or what feels familiar. And it’s very comfortable staying with what’s familiar.
If you grew up in a home where you were taught that money is the root of all evil, chances are you won’t want too much of it, because you won’t want to be seen as evil. The opposite is true too. If you grew up with a housekeeper, lavish vacations, and a loving family environment, that lifestyle feels normal to you, and you’ll naturally strive to recreate it.
Changing Is Possible, But Not Necessarily Positive
Change is possible, but it takes real work. While I was working at one particular salon, a group of us got into personal development together. We read Think and Grow Rich, You’re Born Rich, and The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, among others. The one that spoke to me most at the time was Bob Proctor’s You’re Born Rich. It talks about high vibration and positivity, which matters most in relationships. But it also profiles plenty of successful, rich people who used manipulative tactics to get there, many of whom died by suicide or ended up poor by the end of their lives. That’s actually where I first connected positivity with sustainable success, versus the kind that burns out.
What that season of my life really taught me was how growing up in a scarcity mindset had shaped my finances more than I realized. Thank goodness curiosity has always been part of who I am. I’ve always been able to recognize patterns, in behavior and in strategy. Maybe it’s connected to being dyslexic, but I’ve had a gift for connecting things that don’t look connected at first. It’s part of why I was able to counsel my clients, and honestly, why they counseled me too, along with my coworkers. We are constantly influenced by what surrounds us. It never stops. That’s exactly why it matters so much who you surround yourself with.
First Step
The first step is recognizing what needs to change. If you were raised around constant drama and chaos, chances are you’re very comfortable with drama and chaos, even if you swear you hate it. You’ve just become accustomed to it without realizing it. But if you can look honestly at the behaviors you want to escape, without judgment (you can’t help what surrounded you as a child), you can start making a conscious effort to change. That means getting comfortable with being uncomfortable. I talk more about this in my latest video.https://youtu.be/0uIZ8kt4o1Y?si=gyhBHfVn-7BLy3hN
The Cost Of Change
Here’s the real problem most people don’t warn you about. When you change, the people around you, your family, your friends, won’t always come with you.
This happened to me at that same salon, back when a group of us were doing personal development together. Everyone grows at their own pace, and that’s okay. One thing my clients taught me was that real estate was a smart investment. If I could save for a down payment, even with a bigger monthly payment, I’d make it back in tax savings while building equity. I listened.
Change wasn’t easy. I gave up my apartment and moved in with my grandma. She charged me less rent than I’d been paying so I could save. I was twenty-four, with a three-year-old. Grandma had rules and curfews. Believe me, the sacrifice was real. But I did it. A year and a half later, I bought my first condo. I believe my energy brought the right people into my life to help me get there. That’s when the belief “where there’s a will, there’s a way” became truly mine. It’s carried me through in the most unusual ways ever since.
People Are Your Biggest Cheerleaders Until They Aren’t
While I was hitting my goals one by one, a close coworker and friend was in a real slump. I was buying a place; she declared bankruptcy. We’d grown close early on, both of us single at the time. She’d gone through a divorce right around when I was escaping the worst relationship of my life. She gave me incredible advice and support through all of it. But as I kept moving forward and didn’t need her the same way anymore, things shifted.
Alex Hormozi has said something like, “People are your biggest cheerleaders, until you pass them up.” That’s exactly what happened. Our energies stopped matching. It wasn’t positive between us anymore. She was seeing a married man, and I was building a new life, meeting my husband about a year after buying my place. We never fully got back what we had before. That’s just what change can cost you.
It’s Impossible to Stay Positive All the Time

It’s impossible to stay positive all the time, especially when tensions run high. We’ve all seen genuinely difficult people get away with things you’d never think possible, and it’s because they believe they can get away with it. Let that be a lesson. If a belief works for someone else, it can work for you too, in the direction you actually want to go. I believe my purpose is to share stories like this with people who want real change, not just a mindset shift on the surface. I’ve taught the law of attraction and energy work to my own kids, both full-grown adults now. My daughter is a successful real estate agent, my son is a musician. Both chose cutthroat industries. Both are making magic happen in them.
Not everything will be positive, and that’s okay. If we didn’t have contrast in our lives, we wouldn’t recognize our blessings when they showed up. The universe has your back. I believe that with my whole heart, because I’ve seen it proven out again and again. Just when you think your life is falling apart, right in the middle of the “why is this happening to me” phase, not always right away, an answer shows up. I’ve come to trust that the why always reveals itself eventually.
And that’s exactly why your beliefs matter so much more than staying positive ever could.
